The Bellevue High School boys’ water polo team, known as the Wolverines, concluded their regular season in spectacular fashion, demonstrating both skill and resilience in their final matches.
On Monday evening, the Wolverines faced off against the Enumclaw Hornets, showcasing their depth and versatility. The game was a decisive 17-3 victory for Bellevue, with multiple players getting valuable playtime. From the opening whistle, the Wolverines established their dominance, utilizing their well-coordinated teamwork and strategic plays to keep the Hornets on the defensive.
The match saw significant contributions from the bench, reflecting the team’s overall depth. Every player had the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, which not only boosted team morale but also ensured that all members were prepared for the upcoming state tournament. The extensive playtime for the bench players was a testament to the coaching staff’s confidence in the entire roster and bodes well for the team’s future matches.
Later in the week, the Wolverines traveled to Puyallup to take on the Rogers Rams in what turned out to be a far more challenging contest. Bellevue started strong, quickly establishing an early lead. By the third quarter, they were ahead 8-3, seemingly on their way to another comfortable victory. However, the Rams were not ready to concede.
In the fourth quarter, Rogers mounted a fierce comeback, capitalizing on a few 5-meter shots to tie the game at 10-10 with just 2:28 remaining. Demonstrating composure and determination, Bellevue managed to score three more goals in the final two minutes. Their defense tightened, allowing only one more goal from Rogers, resulting in a hard-fought 13-11 victory.
With these two final wins, the Wolverines completed their regular season division play with an impressive 11-1 record and a 16-4 overall standing. Despite their stellar performance, Bellevue secured the second seed for the D2 East division, just behind Roosevelt, who clinched the first seed due to point differentiation.
