Double Overtime Upset: Wolverine Boys’ Triumph Over Roosevelt Rough Riders
The Wolverine boys’ team faced the Roosevelt Rough Riders on Wednesday at home, in what was anticipated to be a challenging rematch following an earlier season defeat against Roosevelt. The game began with Bellevue scoring first and maintaining their lead through entire first half. Roosevelt, a formidable opponent, kept the score close and earned numerous exclusions on Bellevue players throughout the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Bellevue faced setbacks with their sprinter and quickest player being rolled. By the fourth quarter, they lost another starter but continued to fight hard playing, going back and forth in scores and tied up, 11-11, at end of regulation.
In overtime, both teams added two goals each, 13-13, leading to a Golden Goal scenario. A few possessions into golden goal on an offensive drive, Quincy scored the decisive outside shot, securing Bellevue’s victory and handing Roosevelt their only division defeat of the season, winning 14-13. Goalkeeper Sol had an exceptional performance with 16 saves, a crucial 5-meter block, and multiple critical defensive plays.
This game demonstrated the team’s ability to face a challenging opponent, focusing on critical stops and effective defense. Additionally, the JV team contributed significantly with their sideline support, especially in overtime play.
