Last Week…
Another week of stiff competition for Bellevue is now in the books. Fully half of the adventure of playing in Puyallup is just getting there. Bellevue’s Charter Coach left campus for Rogers at 3:30 PM. I left at the same time, and seeing the traffic on 405 South, I decided to get creative and take I-90 to the Snoqualmie cutoff heading south to Auburn. Taking this huge detour didn’t help. Nearly two hours later, when I was within a couple miles of Rogers HS, I pulled right up behind our bus which had taken 405 to the 167, West-Valley-Hwy.
Rogers HS, in the shadow of Mt. Tahoma (Rainier), has its own pool, a legit waterpolo court with deep on both ends and proper spacing. Sparing you the suspense, the Jayvees continued their success by tying Rogers (Puyallup) in spite of the Rogers Home Pool advantage. After a valiant effort, Varsity dropped to Rogers in a high stress, competitive game in which Rogers sailed 4 flat lobs into Bellevues goal for an early lead which they were able to maintain throughout the game. Frazer mostly shut down Roger’s top shooter; then went on to stuff in seven of Bellevue’s 8 goals. Wrestling to keep a strong defense position in set, however, Frazer fouled out in the third quarter. With a deep bench, Bellevue’s excellent goalie work and aggressive man on man defense allowed Bellevue to keep Rogers in range, but as the clock ran out, Bellevue just couldn’t pull off the win this time. Rogers 10, Bellevue 8.
