Bellevue downs Newport 10-4
On Wednesday afternoon, Bellevue Boys Water Polo beat cross-town rival Newport High School 10-4 at Woodridge Pool in their first home game of the 2014 season.
Bellevue jumped out to an early 4-1 first quarter lead behind goals from senior co-captain Marco Stanchi, senior Josh Rehder and junior Zack Rossman. By halftime, the Wolverines increased their lead to 7-2 thanks to goals from Rossman, sophomore Cameron Hayes, senior Daniel Sandler.
The Wolverines struggled to convert in the second half, posting a total of three goals. Fortunately for the Wolverines, senior Quinlan Hughes was stellar in the cage, racking up five saves to hold Newport to two second-half goals.
Rossman filled the stat sheet in the victory, leading Bellevue with three goals, three assists, three ejections drawn and four steals. Stanchi added a game high six steals.
Bellevue (2-0) return to action at 5:30pm on Tuesday evening against Shorewood at Woodridge Pool.
