Day 1 at FINA Youth Worlds

Marco Stanchi and Team USA kicked off day one at the FINA Youth World Championships with a 13-8 loss to world power Hungary.

Despite giving up the first goal of the game, Team USA rebounded to take a 6-4 lead heading into halftime. But a series of Hungary adjustments led to a 9-2 second half surge. Team USA battled but could not keep pace with one of the world’s best water polo nations. Stanchi started at center and drew a handful of ejections in the loss.

Stanchi and his team returned to the host venue for the Opening Ceremonies on Saturday night. Team USA enjoys an off-day on Sunday. They return to the water on Monday August 4th at 1pm local time (8/4 3am PST).
