Bellevue loses to MI, 7-6
In their final tune-up before this weekend’s State Wild Card Tournament, the Bellevue Wolverines dropped a close contest against Mercer Island, 7-6.
Morgan Baker led a furious fourth quarter comeback, scoring two of her team’s four goals in the final period. However, it was not enough to erase an early 6-2 deficit. Bellevue, playing without five injured athletes, also received goals from sophomore Maggie Ugelstad, senior Sophie Quynn, and freshman Sarah Harrison.
Senior co-captain Sierra Anderson registered eight saves and two assists in the loss.
Bellevue (7-14) enters this weekend’s State Wild Card Tournament as the North League’s #4 seed. Bellevue will compete against eight other teams from across the state, including Bainbridge Island (the North League’s #3 seed), for one of four remaining State Tournament berths. The Wolverines hope to join Newport and Mercer Island, the #1 and #2 seed from the North League, who automatically qualified for State.
