Bellevue falls to Auburn-Mountainview 7-3
Facing one of the state’s top teams on Monday afternoon, the Bellevue Wolverines came up short, losing 7-3 to Auburn-Mountainview.
Auburn-Mountainview, last year’s 4th place state finisher, got off to a hot start, outscoring the Wolverines 3-0 in the first quarter. Bellevue’s defense tightened up in the second quarter and held the Lions to just one goal. Unfortunately, the Wolverines were unable to convert on two 6-on-5’s earned by sophomore Maggie Ugelstad and entered halftime down 4-0.
In the third quarter, junior co-captain Julie Mao scored Bellevue’s first goal of the game, but Auburn-Mountainview answered with a goal of their own. Freshman Morgan Baker and Ugelstad added scores in the fourth, but it was not enough to close the gap.
Senior co-captain Sierra Anderson continued her stellar early season play, tallying 12 saves and two steals to keep the game close. Through six games, Anderson has posted a minuscule 4.66 goals per game average. Baker chipped in with four steals. Sophomore Alexis Taber added two assists and an ejection drawn.
Bellevue (4-2) returns to the pool on Thursday night against defending state champion Curtis.
