Bellevue beats Bainbridge 5-3

On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, the Bellevue Wolverines rode a fourth quarter comeback to beat Bainbridge Island 5 to 3.
Defense ruled the opening period as senior co-captains Sierra Anderson and Sophie Pasewark held the Spartans scoreless in the first quarter. In the second quarter, sophomore Lisa Courtney found junior co-captain Julie Mao for the lone goal of the half.
Bainbridge Island came out firing in the third period, scoring three straight goals to build a 3-1 lead. With a second left in the quarter, Courtney assisted freshman Morgan Baker to close the deficit to 3-2.
Mao opened the fourth quarter with two goals. With the Wolverines clinging to a one-goal lead, Anderson turned back several Spartan shots to preserve the lead. After sophomore Alexis Taber earned an ejection with 0:50 to play, sophomore Maggie Ugelstad rocketed an outside shot past the goalie for the game’s final goal.
Courtney led the Wolverines with three assists, while Ugelstad and Andedrson tallied a team-high three steals each.
Bellevue (3-1) faces Inglemoor on Friday at Woodridge Pool.
