Bellevue advances to state championship
Facing an early deficit against a tough Roosevelt squad, the Bellevue Wolverines fought back in the second half to earn the win on Saturday morning, 9-7. With the win, the Wolverines advance to the state championship game tonight at 7:00pm against Mercer Island. Bellevue will be seeking a three-peat.
Roosevelt started the game off strong, winning the first quarter 3-1 behind several spectacular saves from senior goalie Nathan Ives. Bellevue won the second quarter 2-1, but still entered the half trailing 4-3. Roosevelt started the third quarter with two quick goals to build a 6-3 lead. With the season on the line, Bellevue rose to the occasion and reeled off five straight goals to end the third quarter with a 8-6 advantage. The teams traded goals in the fourth, resulting in a 9-7 Bellevue victory.
Sophomore Zack Rossman led the team with three goals. Freshman Cameron Hayes and junior Marco Stanchi each had two goals. Senior George French and junior Liam Naughton rounded out the scoring with one goal each. Senior Diego Acevedo had 13 saves and two steals to lead the defense. Hayes chipped in five steals.
Bellevue (24-5) faces Mercer Island at 7:00pm at Curtis High School in the championship match.
