Bellevue beats Bainbridge 19-3, advances to semis
Behind standout performances from senior co-captain George French and junior Marco Stanchi, the Bellevue Wolverines defeated Bainbridge Island 19-3 on Friday night at Curtis High School. With the win, the Wolverines advance to the state semifinals on Saturday morning where they will face Kingco conference rival Roosevelt.
Bellevue opened the game with a 7-1 first quarter lead behind the defensive play of Stanchi and the outside shooting of French. By halftime, it was 10-2 Bellevue. Bainbridge scored their third and final goal in the third period, but Bellevue extended the lead to 14-3 entering the fourth.
French filled the stat sheet with five goals, four assists, two ejections drawn and three steals. Stanchi chipped in four goals, three assists, one ejection drawn and a career-high eight steals. Junior Sevren Trulson added two goals, the first multi-goal game of his career. Late in the fourth quarter, junior Quinlan Hughes scored his first career varsity goal on a man-up opportunity.
Bellevue (23-5) faces Roosevelt on Saturday morning at 9:30am at Curtis High School. If they win, they will advance to the state finals at 7:00pm.
