Bellevue downs Puyallup, gears up for State
In its final regular season matchup before State, the Bellevue Wolverines defeated the Puyallup Vikings 16-6 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior co-captain George French got the Wolverines going early, scoring two first quarter goals en route to a 5-0 first quarter lead. By halftime, the Wolverines increased the lead to six, finishing the second quarter up 10-4. In the third quarter, the Wolverines used a strong counter attack to increase the lead to 15-6. Defense ruled the fourth, as the Wolverines held the Vikings scoreless behind the play of third-string goalie Liam Naughton.
French led the balanced Wolverine attack with four goals and a season-high eight steals. Junior Josh Rehder, Naughton, freshman Cameron Hayes, sophomore Zack Rossman and senior Silas Clapham added two goals each. Senior Scott Bowers led the team with three assists. Junior Daniel Sandler scored once, added two assists and earned two ejections. Junior Sevren Trulson made his presence felt on the defensive end with three steals. Senior goalkeeper Garrett Moffatt had eight saves in the first three quarters before giving way to Naughton, who finished with three saves.
Bellevue (20-5) returns to the pool on Wednesday, November 13th in the opening round of the 2013 State Tournament.
