Bellevue beats Roosevelt, takes Kingco Division title
The Bellevue High boys water polo team will be going for their third straight state title one week from Wednesday after topping Roosevelt 12-8 on Wednesday night. With the win, the Wolverines captured the Kingco Division regular season crown for the first time in school history.
Junior Marco Stanchi got the Bellevue party started with two goals in the first quarter. He scored again early in the second quarter, followed by a goal from junior Liam Naughton and two from senior George French. At half-time, Bellevue led 6-3.
French scored again at the top of the third, followed by goals from sophomore Zack Rossman and freshman Cameron Hayes. Roosevelt fought to keep pace with three goals, but junior Daniel Sandler would add one more score late in the third to end the quarter with the Wolverines leading 10-6.
In the fourth, Stanchi and Rossman scored again. Roosevelt answered with two goals, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit. Senior Diego Acevedo was credited with 11 saves in the cage.
Bellevue (19-5) faces Puyallup on Saturday in its final regular season tuneup before State.
