Bellevue beats Curtis 16-11
In the highly-anticipated rematch of the 2012 state championship game, the Bellevue Wolverines defeated the Curtis Vikings 16-11 on Thursday evening at Curtis Pool.
Curtis entered the game undefeated in South Division league play, with an average margin of victory of 12 goals. To stop the high-flying Viking attack, the Wolverines focused on counter-attack defense. Other than the third quarter, the Wolverines successfully executed their game-plan and kept the Curtis offense at bay.
Bellevue jumped out to a 6-2 first quarter lead thanks to quick passing and unselfish team-play. By halftime, the lead had grown to 10-4. Though Curtis responded with five third-quarter goals, Bellevue kept pace with four of its own and never let the Vikings get closer than five goals.
Senior co-captain George French led the offense with seven goals. Junior Marco Stanchi added four goals, three assists and two ejections drawn. Sophomore Zack Rossman added three goals and three steals. Senior Silas Clapham and freshman Cameron Hayes rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
Senior Garrett Moffatt led the defense with nine saves and two steals in cage.
Bellevue (14-3) returns to action on Tuesday evening at 7:30pm against Mercer Island at MICC.
