Bellevue defeats Newport, 15-8
Led by six goals from junior center Marco Stanchi, the Bellevue Wolverines topped Newport High School 15-8 on Thursday evening at Woodridge Pool. It was the Wolverines’ second victory this season over their crosstown rivals.
Stanchi added two ejections drawn and four steals. Junior Liam Naughton scored three goals and had a game-high three assists. Senior Silas Clapham, sophomore Zack Rossman and freshman Cameron Hayes rounded out the scoring with two goals apiece.
Senior Blake Evans and freshman Sam Geffe made their varsity debuts in the win. Evans contributed two steals, while Geffe had an assist.
Senior goalkeeper Diego Acevedo led the defense with nine saves and two steals.
Bellevue (7-3) returns to the pool this weekend for the Lakes Invitational at Lakes High School, hoping to extend its six game winning steak.
