Bellevue Tops Shorewood 10-6

Behind six goals from freshman Lillie French, Bellevue girls water polo defeated Shorewood 10-6 in Wednesday afternoon action at Woodridge Pool. The game was a rematch of an early season thriller won by the Wolverines, 6-5.
Shooting deep in the opening period, Shorewood scored first and took a 3-2 first-quarter lead. Bellevue answered by shutting out Shorewood 2-0 in the second quarter, including a nice counterattack goal by senior Claire O’Rourke. In the third period, the Wolverines exploded for five goals. Shorewood scored three of their own, but was unable to cut the deficit below three goals. The fourth quarter was a defensive struggle, with the lone goal coming from French.
Junior captain Sierra Anderson had a great game in goal, making nine saves and turning away multiple 1-on-0 and 2-on-1 opportunities. Freshman Sophie French scored two goals and added one assist. Junior two-meter Sophie Quynn chipped in one goal and one ejection drawn.
The win marked the first back-to-back victories for the young Wolverine squad, which defeated Inglemoor last Thursday. Bellevue (3-5) begins a two week break from competition and does not return to action until April 16th against Lakes.
