Bellevue downs Inglemoor in Battle of New Programs
In the inaugural meeting of two brand new programs, the Bellevue Wolverines defeated the Inglemoor Vikings 12-6 on Thursday afternoon.
Prior to the game, Inglemoor parent rep Bob Hoffman led an outstanding pre-game ceremony to honor the 15 Inglemoor and 23 Bellevue founding members. Players lined-up in a traditional pre-game introduction and were saluted by a crowd that included BHS and IHS administrators, friends, family and several BHS and IHS boys water polo players. Following player introductions, three members of the Inglemoor band performed the Star Spangled Banner.
After the pre-game festivities, both teams excitedly took to the pool in anticipation of a close contest. Inglemoor sophomore Natalie Hoffman struck first and the teams traded goals en route to a 3-3 first quarter draw. After making a few second-quarter defensive adjustments, the Wolverines slowed Hoffman and built a 7-5 halftime lead. In the second half, the Wolverines took control and outscored the Vikings 5-1, resulting in a final score of 12-6.
Junior Sophie Quynn led the Wolverines with two goals, one assist and three ejections drawn. Lillie French had three goals and four steals, while sister Sophie French scored four and added two steals. Freshman Nina Stash added three ejections drawn and junior Sophia Pasewark chipped in two goals. Junior captain Sierra Anderson anchored the defense with nine steals.
After the game, members of both teams mingled and enjoyed congratulatory cake from Rain City Water Polo, a local year-round water polo club. Bellevue would like to thank Inglemoor athletes, parents, coach Jake Stewart and parent rep Bob Hoffman for hosting the event and celebrating water polo’s growth on the Eastside!
