On Sunday, five Wolverines were selected to USA Water Polo’s Olympic Development Program Pacific Northwest zone team. ODP is the feeder system for USA Water Polo’s National Teams.
Junior and 2013 co-captain George French was selected as a starter on the 18u “A” team, the lone representative from Washington to earn such distinction. Marco Stanchi, a sophomore two-meter and 2012 First-Team All-State player, was selected as a starter on the 16u “A” team. Joining Stanchi on the “A” team was classmate Liam Naughton. Sophomore Josh Rehder was selected to the 16u “B” team and sophomore Daniel Sandler was selected to the “C” team.
French, Stanchi, Naughton, Rehder and Sandler will join athletes from Washington, Oregon and Idaho on teams that will travel to Henderson, Nevada on March 22-25 to compete against other regional teams from around the country. The top athletes at Henderson will be selected to the National Youth Training teams.
