Bellevue rolls in opening round at State
Behind 15 goals from sophomore two-meter Marco Stanchi, the Bellevue Wolverines rolled to two Wednesday night victories in the opening round of the 2012 State Tournament.
In the first game, Bellevue defeated tenth-seeded Lakes High School 24-3. The Wolverines jumped out to a 6-1 first quarter lead and never looked back. Reed Hendrickson and Garrett Moffatt split the game and combined for nine saves in goal. Stanchi led the offense with eight goals, two ejections drawn and four steals. Junior George French added five goals and freshman Zack Rossman added three goals and three assists.
In the second game, Bellevue topped seventh-seeded Enumclaw 20-4. Stanchi again led the offense with seven goals and two ejections drawn, while French chipped in four goals.
By winning its first two games, Bellevue won its bracket and advances to the quarterfinals to face second-seeded Auburn Mountainview on Friday at 6:30pm at Curtis High School. Mountainview beat #11 Emerald Ridge but lost to sixth-seeded Newport.
