Bellevue Tops Roosevelt 14-10
In their first meeting of year, the Bellevue boys water polo team easily dispatched Roosevelt 12-2. Despite the lopsided score, the Wolverines knew that the young Roughriders were a team on the rise. On Monday evening, this belief became clear when Bellevue escaped Helene Madison Pool with a narrow 14-10 victory.
Bellevue started slow and but was able to build a 3-2 first quarter lead. In the second quarter, the Wolverines stretched the lead to 9-5. However, the Roughriders showed their improvement by playing the Wolverines to a 5-5 second half tie.
Junior George French, Bellevue’s leading goal scorer through the first two-thirds of the season, continued his dominant offensive play, posting five goals as well as five steals. Junior Stu McClelland had another strong all-around game, filling the stat sheet with three goals, two assists and two ejections drawn. Senior goalie Reed Hendrickson had 12 saves and two assists.
Bellevue (13-2) faces Lakes High School on Thursday in a non-league match-up.
