Bellevue Tops Short-Handed Newport, 9-2
Last night at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, the Bellevue Wolverines continued their winning ways by defeating cross-town rival Newport 9-2. What was supposed to be an exciting rematch of the 2011 State Championship game was instead a one-sided affair as the Knights competed without two of its star players: seniors Lee Griffin and Will Helmer.
The short-handed Knights put up a good fight early in the game, trailing only 4-2 at halftime. But they were unable to keep pace with the Wolverines in the second half. Sophomore two-meter Marco Stanchi led the Wolverines with four goals and two assists.
Bellevue (5-0) returns to the pool on Wednesday, September 26th against Roosevelt High School at 3:30pm at Woodridge.
