VanWolverlaere Picks Chapman
Senior Jake VanWolvelaere has committed to playing water polo at Chapman University in the fall of 2012.
Located in Orange, CA, near Los Angeles, Chapman is an NCAA Division III program that competes in the SCIAC (Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) conference. Other SCIAC members include Pomona-Pitzer, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Redlands, Cal Lutheran, Whittier, Occidental, Chapman and Caltech.
VanWolvelaere leaves Bellevue as one of the program’s most decorated athletes. A two-time captain and four-year varsity letterman, he led the Wolverines to their first-ever state championship in 2011. In the process, he became the first Wolverine to earn State MVP honors. As a senior, he set a single-season school record with 145 goals, an impressive 5.4 per game average. He also led the team in steals and blocked shots and was second in assists. VanWolvelaere sits fourth all-time in school history in goals scored and ninth in steals.
VanWolvelaere joins former teammate Chase Middlesworth (BHS ’11) at Chapman. As a freshman, Middlesworth ranked fourth on the team in goals, assists, steals and ejections earned, and helped the Panthers reach their highest win total in school history.
